The Great Dino Egg Mystery

The Great Dino Egg Mystery is a printable dinosaur detective game for kids aged 6–10. They play it around your home.

Two versions of the same adventure: Junior (6–7) and Expert (8–10).

A grown-up hides the cards and stays nearby to help.

Cute and cosy, never scary: friendly dinosaurs who work in a museum at night.

Perfect for a dinosaur birthday party, a rainy afternoon, a sleepover or a family game night.

Digital download: you print it at home.

The mystery
  • Tomorrow the Bramblebone Museum opens its new exhibition… but its star, the smallest fossil egg in the world, has vanished from its glass case during the night! Four dinosaurs of the museum staff were in the great hall this evening.
  • Your young explorers solve a puzzle on each hidden dig card.
  • Every answer is a number. They find it on the Museum Map, which shows where the next card is hidden.
  • A small sign on each card lets them check their answer before they run off.
  • Along the way they find 3 pieces of evidence: a scarf thread, a glasses print on the glass and footprints in the dig pit.
  • They name who took the egg. Then they open the sealed envelope and find out why: a tender surprise that hatches at the end.
What the kids do
  • 10 different puzzles: join the dots, dig through the rock layers (the oldest is at the bottom!), turn a fossil wheel, spot the differences between two showcases, look through a dig window, a museum maze, fossil scales, a bone number pattern, a torn museum poster to put back together (they share out the pieces) and a logic puzzle.
  • They search the house, write their evidence in their Explorer Notebook and agree on who did it.
  • Role badges rotate during the game, so everyone gets a job.
Choosing the level
  • Junior (6–7): picture puzzles and very little reading.
  • Expert (8–10): more steps and simple maths. A night guard's note also lets older kids catch two alibis that don't hold up, so the last clue really decides.
  • With mixed ages, each child can solve their own version of the same card.
For the grown-up
  • Start with the Quick-Start: the whole game in 5 steps, on one page.
  • A hiding plan with a replacement idea for every place.
  • A read-aloud script, 3 step-by-step hints for every card, and an answer key that explains the reasoning.
  • Setup: about 30 minutes the first time (printing, cutting out, hiding the cards). Play time: about 25–45 minutes. Both are our estimates.
What you need
  • A printer (black & white is fine), paper, scissors, a little tape and pencils. Treats for the finale are optional. No app, no screen, no padlock.
What you print for one game
  • About 16 sheets for one level, plus 1 Explorer Notebook per child. The host guide can be read on screen.
  • Included in the game: Professor Fernsby's letter, the suspect file, the Museum Map, role badges, 9 dig cards, the envelope label, Tilly's letter, the dino egg to cut out, a photo sign and certificates (type names into the PDF).
Optional party extras
  • Explorer cards, door signs, photo props, snack labels, invitations and thank-you tags.
Languages and formats
  • Every language is included in one purchase: English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Dutch and Portuguese (written for Portugal and Brazil).
  • Each language comes in full colour and ink-saver versions.
  • English, French and Spanish come in A4 and US Letter. German, Dutch, Italian and Portuguese come in A4.
Good to know
  • For personal and family use only. Please don't resell or share the files.
  • An original story and characters, not linked to any book or film.
  • Made by Pontusval Studio in Brittany, with the help of AI tools. The illustrations were created with an AI image generator and art-directed by us.
  • Every puzzle is checked by a program that solves it again from the printed data. The texts and layout are reviewed by hand.

What exactly do I get?

A digital download: printable PDF files in colour and ink-saver versions, A4 and US Letter. Nothing is shipped. You buy on Etsy and download the files straight away from your Etsy account.

What age are the games for?

Most games are for kids aged 6 to 10 (the spy mission goes up to 12). Each game has two levels, Junior and Expert, so brothers and sisters of different ages play the same mystery together.

How does a game work?

A grown-up hides the case cards around the home. The kids solve the puzzle on each card; every answer is a number that points to the next hiding place on the map. Along the way they collect clues, cross out suspects and name the culprit at the end.

How long does it take?

About 15 minutes to print and hide the cards, then roughly 30 to 45 minutes of play. These are our estimates. The advent calendar takes 5 to 10 minutes a day for 24 days.

Do I need a colour printer?

No. Every page works in black and white, and an ink-saver version is included. No information is carried by colour alone.

Which languages are included?

Our escape rooms include English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Dutch and Portuguese in one purchase. The advent calendar is in English and French.

Is it a real escape room with padlocks?

No padlocks, no app and nothing to buy: just paper, scissors, pencils and a bit of tape. Each card has a small check sign so kids know their answer is right before they run off.

Can I use it for a birthday party?

Yes: for a birthday party, a sleepover or a family afternoon. The files are for personal and family use only, so please do not resell or share them.
